Hives doing well!

Looks like all 8 made it through a very mild although very wet winter. So far. All are very busy today and bringing in pollen.  Here's two of them:

.I decided to get a close-up of the newts mating in the second pond (yes, it's an early spring) and while they stayed too far away, Of course these guys were right below the house and I didn't have a long lens with me.

  1. So you use the complete mouse guards totally open all winter? I usually try and close my entrances down to only one bee size but have a top and bottom one for air flow.

  2. I haven't had any mouse problems. All the hives have a top entrance. All have screened bottoms. Studies have shown that it isn't the cold that is a danger, it's the moisture. They have plenty of ventilation and the sugar screen on top of the upper deep sucks up what moisture doesn't get exhausted. It seems to work.
